We said goodbye to the McHotel for a one of a kind stay in the footsteps of the Golden Age of Hollywood…
Blame it on Airbnb, but right now, there is a rising trend with young travellers looking to stay in a vacation rental over hotels. Compound that with COVID-19, and that means travellers are rethinking their vacations. From staying away from traditional crowded and claustrophobic hotels and staying in places that have distinct character and charm.
We’re seeing the rise of retro motels, classic road trips, RV’ing – trips that push back on the traditional hotel experience and provide something richer – a story.
For us, that meant when visiting L.A. we were going Old Hollywood style. We slept on silk covered beds and, dined on fresh fruit while overlooking the Hollywood Sign on our private balcony at the Villa Delle Stella.
In its heyday, Villa Delle Stelle was the accommodation for silent film stars like Buster Keaton who were filming on Columbia Studio’s lot, now, it’s famous writing retreat for Netflix writers and even the spot for photoshoots with Billy Ray Cyrus… yeah.. see reference pic.
For sure, the 6 different suites at Villa Delle Stelle are comfortable and convenient, but more importantly, it actually played into a narrative we wanted to experience – to stay where the stars typically stayed, with modern comfort and a touch of nostalgia. We wanted to experience that sync – which I guess is also the pop culture connection: Where you stay is as much as the vacation as the destination itself.
Now, in this new world we predict this trend will accelerate – smaller more authentic trips, that are private and provide an underlying layer of history.
If you’re curious, we stayed in the Art Deco Suite, which is a completely renovated, pet-friendly, 2-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen, giant bathtub, powder room and balcony. It’s minutes from the Hollywood Walk of Fame and around the corner from from Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles – which for me (Marie) is a BFD.
If you wanted to book your own stay at Hollywood’s Villa Delle Stella, then head over to their website. We recommend booking directly with them because, in the era of COVID, that saves them any additional fees they would have to pay to 3rd party services to pass through the reservation.
And of course, if you do go to visit Villa Delle Stella, let us know!
Thanks to Villa Delle Stella and their gracious accommodations during our stay in Hollywood! THANK YOU!
