Andrew “Fresh Kils” Kilgour is the man behind the Alt.Pop.Repeat intro music. Beyond that he’s the guy CBC Music calls “master of face-melting mash ups” and the one whose YouTube channel I’m likely to hit up when I need to score playlist points at a party.
So, needless to say Chrissy and I are hyped to share that he has launched his own podcast called The Kils & Baio Show – going live every Tuesday at 2am EST on RuckusAvenueRadio.com. So we took this opportunity to ask him a few questions and have him draw one sick portrait of Bruce Springsteen.
1. Why did you start a podcast?
Just a couple small town boys trying to run with the big dogs, small fishes amongst podcast orcas; another hair brained scheme born out of the boredom, despair and aimless desperation that only a global pandemic could foment.
2. Tell us about the show? Why should people tune in?
I think people should tune in to hear the bickering bromance of a couple veteran musicians, while our fascinating guests look on in horror.
3. What’s your favorite counter/sub/alternative culture topic? How did you get into it?
I’m actually really into UFO’s ever since one of production partners, Matt Labatt, unearthed a VHS at a Goodwill years ago of this student doc on David Hamel; a man said to have spent his life attempting to rebuild the engine he said he’d been shown by aliens, aboard UFO’s, during abductions as early as the 1950’s. We named our vinyl release “Building A UFO” as a result of our fascination with him.
4. How did you get involved with Alt.Pop.Repeat?
Marie actually interviewed me years ago on her online show back in 2013 I think? During the production of Alt.Pop.Repeat, she reached out hoping I might be able to help with the music.
5. Finish this sentence: “No one will ever know that I…”
Am a closet Bruce Springsteen fan…
6. Draw a picture of it… now.
I can’t draw to save my life, but here goes… the cover of Born To Run lol
End Scene.
Thanks, Fresh for answering a bunch of questions for us! You’re awesome and let’s chill soon!
